The Art of Creativity | Taika Waititi | TEDxDoha

Taika Waititi is a visual artist, actor, writer and director hailing from the Raukokore region of New Zealand. His short film Two Cars, One Night was nominated for an Academy Award in 2005. Taika's second and most recent feature, Boy, appeared at the Sundance and Berlin Film Festivals earlier this year. He discusses how creativity has helped him to express his ideas and led him to where he is today.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

  • He had me sold when he said "My job is not film-making. My job is to be creative. My job is to express myself and to share my ideas and my point of view.". This came off to be such a profound truth, and it's so universal if you think about it. Most of us spend our lives finding that perfect job, perfect title, that elusive thing called "calling" - and all that we should rather be doing is just be ourselves at whatever we do.

  • TED should vent actors more carefully. This is a disaster. Ive seen many actors brought in to do a TED talk... They aren't equipped usually for a succinct speech without someone to give them leading questions.

  • Taika Waititi is a mad genius. Whoever edited that video was just mad. I can only assume they were trolling us with all those awkward cuts, not showing us what's on screen, and ensuring every person who is moving around is captured by the camera. Or maybe they are trolling Taika? Please give me the unedited, raw footage, I'll fix it as a favour to the internet gods. People should not be subjected to bad editing.

  • That was the most unresponsive audience. They seemed to view his pearls of wisdom and dry dry sense of humour like the biggest display of Onanism they had ever seen. He was shooting jokes straight from the hip into a void of weak titters. What a crime to be so underwhelmed with genius right in front of them. The person in charge of editing this Ted talk needs taking into the desert to think about what they just did. To his ultimate credit he kept going but creativity does need a little water, its a two way street. How he did not run whimpering in pain from the stage I have no idea, but like he said take strength from failure. In reality he did not fail, as at this point 1,738,354 views says differently. What a dude.

It's obviously much to complex to try to explain here but I'll put my own thought to the universe an hope another will think on it too
