By now I am planning to visit Guadalupe/ Oahu (Hawaii) as soon as it’s possible again. This documentary increased my early on fascination a lot and helped turn my rather fearful sight on these predator into one which is mostly based on respect. You definitely earned the Emmys you got Mr. Casagrande. I am looking forward to experiencing these fascinating creatures myself. Keep up the great work👍🏻

  • I like how it begins with mentioning humans are the apex predator of the planet on land, and suggests great whites rule the seas as an apex predator. But nope. Human beings are the apex predator there too. We are such an apex predator of the ocean that even sharks are on the menu and we have overfished hundreds of species to near extinction. Even with how foreign the ocean is to us. We became it's apex predator in only a few hundred years. Not only of big things like sharks and whales, but small things like shrimp and crab. That is how much food our population needs. And even if we didn't eat shark, sharks would still die from us eating all their food. They do not in any way rival us as predators. And they are better than the vast majority of predators on the planet, great whites being successful in 2 out of every 3 hunts. Which is insanely high. Humans are just straight up unbeatable as predators. So much so that we have to regulate ourselves from hunting too much to ensure we don't eat everything in the ocean to extinction. Because left unchecked by ourselves, we would. We could annihilate the ocean with nothing more than nets. Hopefully we are smart enough to limit the damage we do to the planet before we hunt ourselves into our own extinction.

  • Peter Benchley, author of “Jaws” deeply regretted his fictional bestselling & made into a movie book and spent the remainder of his life trying to undo the unwarranted fear & disgust people still feel about sharks, esp great whites. He created a foundation to promote education of the white sharks vital role in the oceans. His widow continues his efforts to educate & appreciate instead of repulsion based on fiction. They are magnificent & necessary to our oceans.
