    • Natalie, would you do a video on the CULT OF YOUTH, AGEISM, and its relation with sexist ideas about how a woman's biggest accomplishments are connected to their youth and beauty? I'm in my twenties feeling like my worth is withering away with each day, and I've spoken to other people my age about this and they feel the same. Also, how you expect these ideas to evolve in the future? (I'm sorry for any mistakes, english isn't my first language)

Like are you afraid you would have been "transed" if you were born in a more accepting environment? Hone, that just means you are actually trans but have so much internalized transphobia you cannot accept your own identity. You can't change my mind...

  • Thanks for the video Natalie. You make a good point about avoiding pointless debates regarding what gender is. I am a stand up comedian, recently moved to a new city, and I've basically receded myself into the closet out of anxiety. I don't feel like the structures of open mics are friendly to me, especially when the female booker openly complains that there are no women on. I am currently living in a first world country, in a very woke city, receiving government support and free access to mental health care, and it still kinda sucks on a daily basis to be alive due to my gender.

When I speak with family members they express a lot of views that "don't seem hateful" on the surface and yet there is always an undertone that makes me very uncomfortable--but I hadn't been able to really put it into words and understand what the mechanism was that disguised these discriminatory views. Thanks as always for helping to decode the gaslighting that is used to obscure bigotry.

  • IT IS an intelectual and a political debate, because it's not an easy matter to solve, it's not simple. If some people use the debate to "camouflage" their bigotry (as you said), that is the art of "rethoric". And everybody can play that game in the topic they want. A "semantic" debate is not a stupid problem, because, in the first place, why do you wanna be treated as a woman? Or, because it's inevitable for people to wonder: "Ok, trans are equal to us, but at the same time, they are different. Different in what?" As people ask with everything different.

  • I really appreciate you outlining some of the warning signs for indirect bigotry because it made me realize that some of the things I’ve said or people close to me have said come from a place of subconscious bigotry. By pointing it out in phrases that I’ve heard or used, you made it so the next time I almost say something or catch my loved ones saying something, I can pause and evaluate where that comment is truly coming from, why I think/feel that way, and how it could be harmful. It’s really hard to admit that I’ve been guilty of being an indirect bigot in the past, but if you hadn’t outlined what that means, I would never be able to identify the problem and correct it. Thank you

  • There is nothing transphobic about advocating separate accommodations for trans-women as opposed to cis-women, and trans-men as opposed to cis-men. The accusations of transphobia for people advocating separate accommodations are ridiculous. Transphobia requires advocating or performing some discriminatory action against trans-people, separate accommodations for gender and biology is accepted by society. So a separate 'trans-women' athletic division is acceptable, as is a separate 'other' changing room at a gym. Those make reasonable accommodation of people's situation without discomforting the XX or XY who want fair competition and privacy from other genders. The accusation of transphobia against feminists are evil, and must stop.

ANNA CLARA FenyoANNA CLARA Fenyo3 dögum síðan
    • @ANNA CLARA Fenyo I would also agree that we need gender neutral single restrooms for anybody who feels uncomfortable about using a public restroom I just don't want anybody to be discriminated against on the basis of being trans

      GhostyGhostyDegi Síðan síðan
    • @Ghosty I am not telling her to use the men's restroom. I am saying that having a separate "trans/other" bathroom isn't discriminatory, and would be convenient (it can double as a handicap/family bathroom). Where it doesn't exist, she can use whatever bathroom she feels comfortable in, it's not a legal question. Gender is a social construct, and bathrooms are also a social construct. I can pee on the street too. The two constructs overlap.

ANNA CLARA FenyoANNA CLARA FenyoDegi Síðan síðan
    • @ANNA CLARA Fenyo But your argument fails when you come to the conclusion that gender is a social construct. In this video Natalie states that she has never had someone suspect she is was a man when using the women's restroom. So why do we need to tell Natalie who is a woman that she needs to use the mens restroom

      GhostyGhostyDegi Síðan síðan
    • @Ghosty I think it is an excellent thing to discriminate based on gender. Just as long as you maintain "separate but equal" facilities (only in those cases like bathrooms and sports, where biology is the main event). This is how you deal with gender equitably, it is NOT how you deal with race. That's what makes gender different from race, you see.

ANNA CLARA FenyoANNA CLARA FenyoDegi Síðan síðan

  • I rewatched this video and, the second time around I'm suspicious that there is some validity in her fears in a very sad and strange way. ispast.info/losk/v-deo/imeMYKaXxZfHbLA.html 👆In this video, an individual detransitions because she realized that her original transition was a reaction to being sexually assaulted. I think that, for those who have experienced sexual abuse, finding a way away from their own body is safety. And so transphobia is a result of being tantalized by having a way out of their body, and trying hard to fight it; this intense virtego pulling them in that they fight hard against, felt by those who can't imagine other, more powerful ways to escape their bodies (while sober). I think that this is likely a sad sign of a lack of guidance when it comes to recovering from sexual assault. No one tells people what they're going to go through in the short-term or long-term. No one tells them methods to express or cope with what they're going through. They walk through life in darkness, and in so doing, attack what they see as a very tempting idea that might destroy who they think they were before their assault.

  • Hi! You probably won't read this, but I just wanted to type it out. I come from a fairly conservative upbringing, in a culture that taught me that I wasn't safe because I was a woman. I basically saw the women's restroom as the one place where being a woman was safe... so I've always been squeamish about trans women using it. It sounds stupid (especially in this comment section), but I was taught from very early on that "dick = danger, because rape". I do have a trans friend and have talked about this with her, so no - I'm not about to politically attack anyone. I do believe in trans liberation, and have advocated for it in my own way at home... but I couldn't help but feel a little uncomfortable by the thought that someone with a dick was allowed in the one place where my pussy was safe. Today, when you deconstructed J.K. Rowling's trauma from sexual assault's relation to her transphobia, I finally felt heard and understood - like now I can see exactly how my hyper vigilance can be disconnected from my thoughts on trans rights, without cognitive dissonance. I appreciate the rational breakdown. Thanks Natalie!

  • I have one point of contention with your video. I don't think the movie Psycho should be categorized as implicity transphobic nor do I think the "psychologist's" understanding of Norman Bates psyche is wrong. Considering the movie was based on the life of Ed Gein it's a bit of a stretch to say that this movie implicity made people transphobic. If anything, the movie's narrative did alot more to demonize rural communities as evil perverted outsiders.

    Name NameName Name4 dögum síðan
    • Why does the movie being based on the life of Ed Gein mean that it couldn't also implant transphobic ideas into the public consciousness, especially when the case of Gein itself is an early example of the media spreading a transphobic narrative? Likewise, why can it not demonise both rural communities and those seen as effeminate men? I see no reason to think it can only be one or the other.
