Is It Too Late To Stop Climate Change? Well, it's Complicated.

This video is part of a series about climate change supported by Breakthrough Energy - a coalition founded by Bill Gates, that is working to expand clean-energy investment and support the innovations that will lead the world to net-zero carbon emissions.

Climate Change is just too much. There is never any good news. Only graphs that get more and more red and angry. Almost every year breaks some horrible record, from the harshest heat waves to the most rapid Glacier melt. It’s endless and relentless.
We have known for decades that rapid Climate Change is being caused by the release of Greenhouse Gases. But instead of reducing them, in 2019 the world was emitting 50% more CO2 than in the year 2000. And emissions are still rising. Why is that? Why is it so hard to just stop emitting these gases?

For these negative desires, we will be competing for survival. To live comfortably, when the most comfort is laying on a hammock in the wilderness on the beach, at ur finger tips..... We are fully challenged, as we speak, these same implication has left the reptiles, the dino days to stay fittest.

Sometimes the sun wont shine for days or there won’t be wind for months (strange but true) and if we switch out fossil fuel with more renewable there could be some dire consequences we may not even know might happen such as sudden blackouts do to the unavailability of energy. However I do want to see global warming be reduced and wonder what will happen next.

  • And then, theres germany. Germany taxes carbon, but allows companies like those running our coal plants to buy up capacity for carbon emission from tech companies whose carbon footprint, in comparison, is neglegible, so that they get off scott free. German politicians complain about cutting 8000 jobs in the fossil fuel sector, but have no problems doing the same in renewable energy. German politicians wont keep up subsidies for renewable energy because big coal (Yes, its big coal in germany, not big oil) keeps paying them off with the money that the same german politicians just gave to them as subsidies, because the coal sector wouldve long switched to more sustainable methods, was it not for those very subsidies. And to top it all off, they pretend germany is the nation doing the energy revolution.

The most logical way to combat this would be to decommission unused naval units and limit foreign trade. Not putting a tax on the average person who isn’t contributing to it. How we make food can change as well, but we will always have natural CO2 from humans, food, animals etc. The ecosystem is self sustainable from renewing itself but when we kill it cant renew itself, when its man made chemicals.

    • @zorbathegreek the sun's definitely getting hotter, but so slowly we won't notice any differences here for millennia, we could safely ignore that for now. We can't simply shut down fossil fuel industries, but we can put pressure on them. The best way to step up is to create a political incentive to invest in developing better energy sources. That will snowball into the progress we need across the board from R&D to infrastructure and transitioning. And for that to happen we need to change the mindset of the population. Easier said than done, but I believe "influencers" like Kurzgesagt are helping. We could also wait until the the problems pile up and drive us to desperation which will also be good motivation

      kusalkusal36 mínútum síðan
    • If by "stepping up", you mean following the eco-warrior/green lobby agenda of going zero-carbon by shutting down all fossil fuel industries, you're in for a big disappointment. Current non-carbon sources of energy simply cannot replace fossil fuels at present, nor do we have advanced enough technology yet that could make this a reality. No doubt, both new technologies and development of new, cleaner energy sources will improve matters for all of us in the not-too-distant future, as will reducing population growth. The one obvious snag to all this, needless to say, is that the Sun Is getting hotter as it's ageing----and that's one aspect of climate change that absolutely nobody can do anything about.
