Nowadays, Pokemon travel on your journey to becoming the best there ever was has evolved. It used to be your feet and a bike. Now, you you can ride on Pokemon in your party as a travel option. Plus, there are built in game mechanics that are basically Pokemon taxi service. The Gala region has their Flying Taxi that utilize Corviknights to fly you from place to place. Well, that got me thinkin Theorists. Did Pokemon get flying RIGHT? Could a Corviknight, or any flying type, actually carry passengers or even THEMSELF? It's time to find out!

  • i'm a bit late, but how do you explain things like quetzalcoatlus? just because the birds of today generally go by a rule of thumb of 2kg/m, that would mean the approximated 36ft wingspan with the approximated weight of 440 lbs (both in the best case scenario, lowest weight + largest wingspan) it would still not even support 1/3 of its own weight.. so even ignoring the probable mystical properties of pokemon, your math doesnt even hold up to real world examples

    Parker SandahlParker Sandahl3 dögum síðan
  • For the case of Dragonite, the Pokedex state it's some kind of being with weather manipulation powers. so physically it shouldn't fly, But when you consider its lore, it could probably using it's dragon/arcane magic to control the air currents around it. For literally most legendaries, they're just powerful, wynaut. for Lugia specifically, it's a psychic type. so it just floats itself. For Togekiss and togetic, refer to the explanation above from dragonite.

  • It strikes me as odd that you specifically mention some Pkm potentially being able to control air, then dismiss the idea immediately. In my mind, Flying-type has always been analogous with "Air-type." Other Pkm can control water, fire, earth, plants, and any number of other materials with little-to-no physically-derived abilities, so it stands to reason that Flying Pkm do something similar with air. I mean... there's a Flying-type move that literally makes a miniature hurricane strong enough to damage an opponent. That's something that you can only really do with either industrial equipment or an innate control over the air itself. Since Pidgey isn't carrying around any 2-ton fans, I'm inclined to say it's the latter of those two possibilities. Assuming that's the case, the real problem becomes determining a given Pkm's ability to control the air around it. Since Flying-type moves use either Attack or Sp.Attack as their main stat, we can assume that these are somehow related to how powerful their control over air is, and therefor how much they can lift in flight. Based on the descriptions of moves and basic logic, it can be assumed that Attack is descriptive of a Pkm's physical strength, whereas Sp.Attack is indicative of their ability to control 'elements' (in this case, air). Corviknight's base Attack and Sp.Attack are 87 and 53 respectively. Charizard's, meanwhile, are 84 and 109. Even if we're incredibly reductive and assume that 1 Attack point is equivilent to being able to lift 1kg of weight, Corviknight appears to be able to fly unaided (70kg < 87Atk) while Charizard only seems to need a little extra air-manipulation (90.5kg - 84Atk = only ~7kg). Granted, this still leaves a few "Flying" Pkm unable to actually lift off. Gyarados, for example, has an Attack and Sp.Attack of 125 and 60 respectively, and a weight of 235kg (125 + 60 = 185, 185 < 235kg). But, then, Gyarados can't actually learn "Fly," so... checkmate..?

  • Hey MatPat I have a Theory for you that I have had on my mind for a while. How old is the main character in Genishin Impact? here is the main story the game opens to a cutscene where a pair of twins are fighting a goddess. towards the end of the cutscene you get to pick which twin to play as and you get to name them the character you pick. I chose the male, later we find out that the twins travel through worlds helping people. My theory is that depending on what world they are in depends on their age. if my theory is true I want to know. How old are the twins in the world you play in?

Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground. The bee, of course, flies anyway because bees don't care what humans think is impossible.- now apply this to pokemon and theirs your answer

We only fly shiny legendaries around to protest the use of flight suits. (Flight suits are also just over powered and unaffordable for new players so alot of times the rich players will get all the legendary Pokemon from the vote party, which is a legend that spawn after the server gets enough votes.)

  • I think that comparing Pokemon flying types to IRL birds is a bit inaccurate as Scizor's Shield Dex Entry says that "It's muscles are made out of Steel" so i think that most likely CorviKnight also has Steel Muscles and thus would proportionately be able to lift way more as Even Scizor (Sword Entry) can lift its claws which account for ⅓ of it's 260 pound body weight.

  • a big reason birds can fly is because of the density of the bones/what ever they are of the wings. they are hollow. plus it makes sense that pokemon would use something else to fly. thats why so many flying moves are just air attacks. plus wondering but what about dragons and wyverns? they can fly and their bodies clearly dont support that.
