Warm Regards,

  • I hope you enjoy this video. My thought was to not make a "ISpast video" style video.... but to make something I would be proud of for years to come. About a year ago I was presented with an opportunity to go to a sea turtle conservation center in Costa Rica. There I met Valerie, an amazing conservation researcher who has a true passion for sea turtles. When I returned home I contacted Dr. Christine Finniger who taught me more. When the Cook Museum told me about their amazing opportunity with Kale the endangered Kemp's Ridley sea turtle, I was totally floored. I hope you enjoy this video as much as I enjoyed the experience. Also, this is the first time DJI has sponsored Smarter Every Day. The Mavic Mini is going to be a great tool for upcoming videos. I've already shot a couple of things for upcoming videos with it. If you'd like to signal to them that you're glad they've decided to sponsor Smarter Every Day it would be awesome if you'd consider going here: →bit.ly/3ePEAjS ← and use promo code KLDE2Q87JZU9 to get 5% off when purchasing the DJI Mavic Mini or Mavic Mini Fly More Combo. They didn't tell me to put this in the comment section. I legitimately like the product and think you will too! As always, thanks for watching and supporting my efforts to learn all kinds of interesting things. I'm grateful for you. Regards, Destin

My wife and I always sit and watch your show and think, "this guy has done everything" I seen this video and I decided that we were right lol. If we can save one turtle, that's what it's all about. Thank you for your interest in turtles and I'm glad we can share this love. Thanks also for the tears. Turtles are so innocent. Much love Destin. Sincerely Troy Stevens.

  • Hi Destin, i'm from Martinique (french caribbean island) and i used to swim with hawksbill turtle for years. It always been a normal animal to me like seeing pidgeon, cat or dog. But your video struck me deeply by learning that is a critically endangered specie. It make me sad but in other hand seeing people like Valerie, Dr Figgener, the Cook Museum and all the team taking care of this beautiful creature give me hope for the futur. Thanks you a lot for this incredible journey.

  • That was a correct decision to call Kale non-releasable... I have a perineal version of the exact same thing, and after 3 surgeries it still gives me problems that wouldn't be livable without human medical intervention. He would have been in so much pain for years before finally getting into a very slow death from all kinds of trouble just like that lady described. In fact, in his scenario, the "happiest" end in the wild would be to get hit by a boat propeller. The second would be sepsis (which is a horrible death). I hope they will keep doing that flushing consistently and that he'll live on to inspire more people to be aware of the fragile but indispensable marine biosphere...

  • I'm not sure if 100% hatching and releasing is actually doing good for the population in the long run. Because it will enable gene sets that were discarded by nature to procreate, and occupy eggs that otherwise would have been fertilized by a more suitable male with a stronger set of genes... Reducing beach predation and human disturbance: YES! That is definitely helping a lot. Because those factors are not dependent on the health of genes. But digging up hatchlings that wouldn't be able to surface on their own... I dunno... Seems like disturbing the natural selection that has strengthened the species for thousands of years.

It was on the 49 min mark when I woke, I went back skipping through the video to see how alike the video and my dream were.. Very! There were characters, quotes situations and strangest of all... settings, like the room with the tanks, that exact room was in my dream at one point. Of course a lot was in my dream that wasnt in the video but it's crazy how much was and how my brain took a lot of the video and made a super vivid and crazy story into a movie for me where I was the main character!. Dreams always amaze me.
